In Houston a police officer was called to a nursing home where a schizophrenic double amputee was threatening people with a weapon that turned out to be a pen. The man in the wheelchair was threatening and attempting to attack the police officer after he cornered him and tried to stab him. The police officers partner shot and killed the man. Although some people think that is was unethical to kill the double amputee in a wheelchair I believe that it was ethical because he was trying to protect his partner and himself and trying to stay safe.

Current Events Week 4
On Sunday it was discovered that NFL side judge Brian Stropolo was a big Saints fan and pulled him from the Saints vs. Panthers game that he was about to referee. It was discovered that he was a Saints fan after the NFL looked at his Facebook page. I think this is bad ethics because if he is a Saints fan he should have told the league and not attempt to ref the game.If i was in this position i would not ref this game because it would be a conflict of interest.

Current Events Week 3
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/09/07/rep-jesse-jackson-jr-returns-home-after-treatment
The current events article i read was on Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. For the past several weeks he has been at the hospital due to depression. Many people say he should leave the office he holds and others say he should stay in office in Illinois. He is expected to return to work soon. I chose this article because i feel it relates to what we have been talking about in class recently which is ethics. I do not think what he is doing is ethical because he should either return to work or leave office. If he was being ethical he would resign.

Current Events Week 2

Mark Zuckerberg said today that even though his company is worth about 50% less than it was when it came out out on the stock market, he will not sell any of his shares for at least a year. This comes after several other important people at Facebook sold some of there shares. Facebook is now at $17.55 per share, a new all time low for Facebook. Zuckerberg owns 444 million shares of Facebook. He hopes this will provide some security to investers and bring the price of Facebook up.
I think this is good ethics by Mark Zuckerberg, because he is the most recognizable face of the company and he is the most powerful person at Facebook. If he did decide to sell, investers would have absolutely no confidence in him or the company and prices would go even lower. I learned that he did what he had to do to try and help his company even if it may have cost him in the long run depending on what happens to the stock prices

Current Events Week 1
A grand
jury found Samsung guilty of violating a patent that Apple had on its
iPod/iPhones. Samsung copied it and put it in its new smartphone. This is very
important to the technology industry because Samsung is Apples top competitor.
Apple was awarded $1.05 Billion which is less then half of the $2.5 Billion that
Apple was originally asking for in the lawsuit. Samsung must now pull all of
its top tablets and phones that infringed on Apples patents. The patent that
was violated was the patent that gave Apple full rights to rectangular devices
with rounded corners.
I learned from this
article that even large companies like Samsung have to be responsible for what
they do and must pay the consequences even though they are billion dollar
companies. I was surprised that Samsung was fined that much money because
usually large companies like that are not really punished that severely.
